The Regional Museum in Teplice specializes in the archaeology, history and nature of Northwest Bohemia. It devotes great attention to documenting the glass, ceramics, tin and spa industries and managing collections of rare books. It is housed in a chateau building located in the oldest part of the spa town of Teplice. It is surrounded by a large garden and stands on the site where Queen Judith founded a Benedictine monastery in the second half of the 12th century. The original interiors of the castle buildings have been preserved, including the Renaissance hall with its painted coffered ceiling, the Rococo hall with its rich stucco decoration and the rooms with their historical furnishings. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions on archaeology, geology, zoology, history, spa treatments, numismatics and fine and applied arts. The castle's inner courtyard, where the floor plan of the monastery basilica is marked, and the multimedia exhibition “In the footsteps of the extinct monastery in Teplice”, which is located in the so-called Romanesque wing of the castle, are also part of the visitor tour. In addition to the artificial grotto from the 17th century and the painted hall, the tour also includes a Romanesque crypt with an exceptionally well-preserved interior. This makes it one of the most important Romanesque buildings in Bohemia. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the Teplice Museum offers a range of interesting exhibitions, lectures and accompanying events throughout the year.
