The permanent exhibition is devoted to the 7,000-year history of Prohlis, the life and work of farmer-astronomer Johann Georg Palitzsch, and the basics of astronomy. In 1758, Palitzsch, a farmer in Prohlis, was the first astronomer worldwide to rediscover Halley’s comet, causing a sensation at Europe’s academies. The exhibition’s main attraction is a digital planetarium (by previous arrangement only) that provides insights into celestial observations, but also takes viewers on a journey to stellar constellations of other ages. Models of the Voyager and Rosetta space probes help describe the study of our solar system and of a comet. With the aid of information plaques on the origins of our worldview, the show links the history of astronmy with space research of the present.
