The Bundeswehr Museum of Military History in Dresden is one of the three major historical museums in Germany, as well as one of the most innovative military museums in the world. With more than ten thousand exhibits, the theme of violence is addressed here as a historical, cultural and anthropological phenomenon. Regular special exhibitions enhance the offer and delve deeper into selected topics. Conceived as a forum for the critical assessment of military history and discussion on the role of war and the military in the past, present and future, the museum’s aim is to open up new realms of thought. The museum was redesigned in 2011 by the American star architect Daniel Libeskind; it was at that time that the striking wedge-shaped section was added.
