Königstein Fortress – Living history with panoramic views
The mighty mountain fortress towers high above the Elbe River – once impregnable, today a popular destination for visitors from all over the world. Impressive buildings and lovingly designed gardens meet immersive experiences, interactive exhibitions, exciting guided tours, and events. An individual tour of the fortress with an audio guide provides an insight into everyday life in the past. Whether castle, monastery, fortress, hunting lodge, state prison, or youth work camp – Königstein looks back on an eventful history. In addition, the 1.7-kilometer-long panoramic trail offers magnificent views over the Elbe Valley and the Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland National Park, all the way to Dresden. A lift provides convenient access to the rocky plateau, and restaurants spoil visitors with a variety of culinary delights.
