In June 1990, the Bunte Republik Neustadt (BRN for short) was proclaimed as a micronation in Dresden's Äußere Neustadt district. The district had been run down by the GDR and offered plenty of scope for creativity. Life in the district was characterized by close neighbourly coexistence, but the threat of appropriation by the “West” was unsettling. The founding of the republic was a reaction to this and was celebrated loudly and colorfully on the third weekend in June until 2019. The history of the district and its festival is very eventful. The BRN Museum shows this development with the help of original posters, photos, film and sound recordings and thus brings visitors closer to Neustadt with all its facets.
