The synagogue was built in 1907 by the Jewish community of Bodenbach in Art Nouveau style with Moorish elements. The community had been collecting funds for it since 1892. It was the only Jewish building in the region to survive the pogrom night of 1938 and the period of socialism. The Jewish community was re-established in 1993. It has owned the synagogue again since 1996 and has since extensively renovated the dilapidated building. Today, Jewish services are held here again. There are several rooms in the basement of the building which are used by the community, but also by a wide non-Jewish audience for events such as concerts or exhibitions.
