The Senckenberg Natural History Collections present changing exhibitions on the subjects of zoology, mineralogy and geology in the Japanese Palais. The museum, which has its origins in the "cabinet of curiosities" founded in 1560 by the Saxon Elector Augustus I, is one of the oldest natural history collections in the world.
